What to Expect from your Home Inspector

posted by Stephen Katz @ 1:33 PM

When purchasing a home, one of the most important steps is getting a home inspection. An inspection is a professional written opinion, and therefore makes it crucial to hire the best inspector you can find. ┬áHere are some questions to ask a potential home inspector after you have check out the legal compliance’s (the liability insurance and license, etc.):

1. What is your work history?

Many of the best inspectors come from some kind of construction background and will be able to give you a thorough inspection because of their work experience.

2. Have you ever had to refund your fee? If the answer is yes, be sure to question the circumstances.

3. What kind of guarantee can you give me in the event that your inspection has errors?

The inspection itself will be in writing, but it is always a good idea to get the guarantee in writing. You want to choose an inspector that will stand behind their inspection.

4. Ask the inspector if they will highlight any hurricane protection and wind mitigation features.

Having this documentation could enable you savings on homeowners insurance.

By doing your homework and asking a few simple questions, you can save yourself time and money, so you can focus on the big picture: your new house!
